UK tourists plan to return to Egypt this year

A recent survey carried out by Easyvoyage, has revealed that Egypt’s tourism industry is on the road to recovery following the violent demonstrations and shift of power.

The survey results show that UK holidaymakers are looking to book their holidays in Egypt within the year which is welcome news for the country’s tourism industry and UK property investors that own homes there.

Many tourists were unable to go on their holidays to Egypt after flight curfews were enforced but the resorts in popular diving areas including Sharm el Sheikh were not as badly affected by the protests but many tourists attractions such as the Temple of Karnak and Luxor Temple were closed for security measures.

As the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office relaxed its travel advice, travel operators are offering promotions to encourage holidaymakers to book holidays to Egypt once again.

Founding President of Easyvoyage, Jean-Pierre Nadir, said: “Britons, especially those travelling with children are always on the lookout for new destinations but as always, the price tag is incredibly important. Our survey shows that Egypt will bounce back relatively quickly, helped by the fact that the popular Red Sea resorts remain largely unaffected.”

Egypt played host to more than 14.7m tourists last year, up by 50% in 7 years despite setbacks like the Gulf War and terrorism during the same period. In 2010, tourism revenue in Egypt exceeded $11bn, and Egypt’s tourism industry employed 2m Egyptians, according to the tourist authority.
