A Show With a Spring in its Step!

A look back at the Property Investor Show 'Spring Edition' in April 2013

So as the shutters came down on the property investment sector's first major exhibition of 2013 the big question is…how was it for you?

Let's start with one unmistakable fact. You'd probably have to go back over a decade where UK property and related services dominated this property event, but just a cursory stroll around the hall was enough to persuade the hardy regulars that UK-based investment property was back with a vengeance. And for the benefit of the 'Twitterati' - UK property was 'trending' for 48 hours at London's ExCeL.
The property offerings on display were supported by a healthy mix of lenders promoting a range of services - with refurbishment and bridging loan products complementing Buy-to-Let mortgages.

With 'rental yield' still a hot topic on investor lips it was encouraging to witness evidence of lender pro-activity.  And it's a long time since seminars presented by a lender attracted 'standing room' only attendance - but Shawbrook Bank's director Steven Johnson found himself in this happy position - twice - and our camera doesn't lie.

With Student Accommodation filling more square meterage than any other sub-sector, and developments in around 20 UK regions represented, this investment category seemed to be as popular as ever - with serious conversations taking place on many stands. A fresh perspective was provided by Gary Ata of specialist student developer Noble Design & Build who said: "This was our first experience of exhibiting at a major property event. We were not sure what to expect and structured our expectations around collecting some good quality leads. However, we were overwhelmed by the experience. We took five reservation deposits for units at our Sheffield student project at the show and I'm speaking to an investor who is interested in buying a complete development."
