Are You Looking in the Right Place For Finance

At the moment the buy-to-let market is a media darling. The papers are full of tips on how property investors can make the most of the slashed rates on buy-to-let loans. As a lender which provides a substantial volume of loans to property investors, we wanted to find out what a key part of the buy-to-let market jigsaw thought about it - our commercial mortgage brokers.

Recently we ran a survey of our brokers to test the temperature in the commercial mortgage market and our findings make interesting reading for property investors. Our brokers cover a range of finance but many of them work with property investors helping them obtain commercial mortgages for buy-to-let deals.

The brokers came back with three recurring themes:

  • The economy and the buy-to-let market are growing and brokers feel this is set
    to continue
  • When considering specialist buy-to-let deals or large investments, property investors are missing out by not looking beyond the high street - over a third of property investors hadn't considered non high street banks as an option when looking for a mortgage
  • Property investors would benefit from thinking about the broker channel when sourcing finance - many are unaware of the value that brokers can bring.
