Auction Review

Richard Bowser reports on McHugh & Co's recent London auction

McHugh & Co. held their latest auction at the BAFTA venue in Piccadilly, London on 4th December. Of the 54 lots on offer, 44 were sold, raising £13,900,400 and giving the auctioneer a success rate of 82%.

Auctioneer James McHugh was understandably very pleased with the results: "We knew from many of the prior viewings which were very well attended that this was likely to be a good auction but you can never be sure," said James." But that is exactly how it turned out on the day, as it was a full room with exceptional prices being paid for some lots."

Given recent trends in the London market it should come as no real surprise to many readers that the auction was so well attended but some of the prices being paid by buyers were significantly above their guide prices. McHugh's auctions always seem to feature some good quality property, partly attributable to their main catchment area being within north-west London, which includes highly regarded Camden, Hampstead and St Johns Wood.
