New research released by letting agent Rentify reveals that almost half (49%) of 18-39 year olds believe that purchasing a BTL property is the best investment opportunity available today, with nearly 4m in their age-group actively trying to purchase a property as an investment. Recently there has been an upsurge in ‘grand-lords’ - over 55s taking advantage of the new pension freedoms - however the research suggests that there is a similar trend among youngsters purchasing buy to let properties as well.
Rentify’s research also reveals that the average Brit rents a property for an average of four years before deciding to buy a property as an investment.
“The property market seems dominated by two or three main ‘types’ of homeowners, renters and investors”, commented George Spencer, CEO at Rentify. “The fact that 49% of first time buyers would consider investing in buy-to-lets is fantastic and shows that there are more options out there and more people who want to get on the ladder.”
