Colliers sees surge in demand for hotels in South West cities

Property agent Colliers International has reported strong sales activity in Bristol and Bath, selling four hotels in the last 12 months.

The four properties in Bath and Bristol have a combined value of over £6.5m and Colliers International has attributed this increased activity to a surge in demand in the hotel sector.

Bristol-based hotel, The Victoria Square in Clifton, was marketed for £1.75m and was bought by a Malaysian hotel investor. In Bath, five star B&B, The Ayrlington, was sold at £2.75m to an Italian investor. Located just off one of Bath’s iconic streets, Great Pulteney Street, The Kennard townhouse was marketed for £1.7m and bought by a local family keen to run a B&B full time. Also in Bath, Colliers has completed the sale of Georgian pub, The Griffin Inn, located in the heart of the city. After seeing off competition from three other bidders, the eight-bed property was sold for £750,000 and demand is still high for similar properties in the area.

Director of Colliers, Simon Wells, said: “The increase in demand in the South West hotel sector has seen steady increase in recent months. The amount of competition we have evidenced demonstrates the strength of demand and buyers are still waiting. The commercial property market is improving, proving that now is a good time to sell.
