Retail and leisure scheme granted for former Welsh fairground

Scarborough Group International (SGI) have revealed that it has received planning consent from Denbighshire Council's planning committee to build around 150,000 sqft of retail and leisure space on the Ocean Plaza site in Rhyl, north Wales.

The redevelopment will comprise a 74,800 sqft supermarket, retail and leisure units totalling 40,100 sqft of space, 5,300 sqft of cafes and restaurants, a 7,500 sqft family pub and a 62-bed hotel.

Lee Savage, Development Director of SGI, said: "We have worked closely with the Council throughout the planning stages and are delighted to have received planning consent for a scheme which, once complete, will provide a great boost to the local economy and transform West Rhyl.

"This redevelopment will create further job opportunities and will provide the town with a much needed leisure and retail offer. We are now focusing our efforts on securing occupiers for the development and are looking forward to seeing the scheme come to fruition."

Scarborough took over the Ocean Plaza site in 2010 after original developers Modus Properties Limited went into administration.
