Canada Water residential led mixed use scheme to start in autumn

Following its efforts to secure planning consent, Sellar Design & Development has agreed a new partnership with Notting Hill Housing to deliver the seven acre Canada Water town centre development.

The 1.5m sq ft residential and mixed use scheme is located on the seven acres adjacent to Canada Water underground station and the dock and located between London Bridge and Canary Wharf.

Sellar has been appointed development manager and will now work in partnership with Notting Hill to deliver around 150,000 sq ft of retail and commercial space as well as a community sports facility and a health centre.

James Sellar, Chief Executive of Sellar, said: "We are delighted to be working in partnership with Notting Hill Housing, a leading provider of rented homes in the capital. The scheme will provide a truly striking development in the heart of a previously overlooked part of London, creating a new town centre for Canada Water.

"Over the past three years we have worked closely with local residents and Southwark Council to meet everyone's aspirations for the site and to provide a focal point for both the existing community and the new residents that will be attracted to Canada Water over the next five years or so."

The development will comprise a total of five buildings, the centrepiece will be a 40-storey tower. As part of the development Sellar will create a new 100,000 sq ft Decathlon store, forming phase one of the scheme, 22,000 sq ft of retail, cinema, bars and restaurants, and a further 25,000 sq ft of office accommodation.

The scheme will also feature nearly 50% of the site being devoted to public realm, including open spaces, landscaped gardens, walkways and cycle paths with a new, waterside town square.

Development is set to get underway in Autumn 2014 with the construction of the first of five residential buildings.
