Croydon's Ruskin Square gets consent for first phase

The first phase of Stanhope and Schroders' Ruskin Square masterplan has been granted delegated planning permission by the London Borough of Croydon.

The plans include a new residential building containing 161 homes varying in height between nine and 22 storeys which will include penthouses, a roof garden, and a private communal open space at ground level.

Ian Mason, fund director at Schroders, said: "We intend to get on site shortly to commence preparatory works for construction. We want to ensure that there is activity on this important site, together with the new bridge at East Croydon Station, so that Ruskin Square fulfils its role as Croydon's Gateway."

The Ruskin Square Masterplan is a 2m sqft mixed use redevelopment on a plot of land between East Croydon railway station and the existing town centre of Croydon. The new building lies on the north-eastern boundary of the masterplan site, adjacent to the Station.
The overall masterplan achieved planning permission in March 2012 and will eventually comprise 1m sqft of offices and 550 homes.
