As a boy I enjoyed playing boards games. I was known as being rather good at figuring out the rules of a new game and then being able to transfer that knowledge to others who wanted to play.

Later, while working for Swiss Bank Corporation's investment bank in Basel Switzerland, I had a discussion with a global expert in using data plus systems to perform due diligence when acquiring competitor banks. He said business is only fun because there are rules. There would be no challenge if there were no rules or constraints.

BTL as a game
Some investors seem to believe the BTL investment game is won by maximizing gearing. That the only way to play is to focus on taking on more debt, maximizing the LTV and betting that future capital appreciation will happen.
